BARCĂU SPRINGS AND THE TUSA – BARCĂU LANDSCAPE RESERVE

The Tusa-Barcau reservation is a mixed natural reserve from a landscape and forest point of view, of national interest, in the administrative area of the Tusa village, Plopis Mountains.

It is considered to be one of the most beautiful areas in the „Country of Sylvania”, in which the beauty of the landscape is completed by the cavern forms, the vegetation (Dacian forests of hornbeam, as well as beech wood) and the diverse fauna (including trout) and the flora, that, during summer, creates fairy tale scenery.

The springs area, with a surface of 13, 43 ha is a protected area, known as the Tusa-Barcau Reserve and it is formed of crystalline shale covered in hone, clay and sand. It is located near the contact area of the Meses Mountains with the Plopis Mountains, not far from the Barcau springs.

The reservations includes a forest sector (pure beech wood and mixed beech wood), a meadow area, as well as two springs (intermittent water flow spring), the Big Spring and the Small Spring with an impressive flow, part of the Nature 2000 Site - Tusa - Barcău. This protected area contains classed of Asperulo-Fagetum beech trees (Dacian beech and hornbeam with coralwort vegetation)

South-east of the Plopiș Mountains, in the south-western extremity of the Sălaj County, in the Country of Sylvania (contact zone of Crișana and Transylvania) on the south-western territory of the Tusa village, near the border limit with the Cluj County
